2012-2014 Honda CR-V class action lawsuit verdict

Question ❔

I bought my 2012 Honda CR-V new and just reached 100k miles not long ago. It started making the rattle noise at cold startup which after researching, it's the VTC actuator. I also found that Honda knew about this problem before the cars were sold and sold them anyway. They wouldn't do a recall and were sued. Honda lost the suit but it only applied to Illinois. I don't live there so I'm out of luck. I've also learned that if it's not fixed, the timing chain will stretch causing more problems and higher costs down the road. Honda did release a service bulletin for the repair saying the repair is 2 work hours plus the part.

I called a dealer to get an estimate on the repair and was quoted over $1000. I asked why they were charging more than 2 hours like the bulletin quoted and they said that is only for warranty work and my car is out of warranty. The dealers can charge whatever they want and they say it is 5 hours of work plus the part.

Has anyone had any luck getting Honda to cover this or does another class action have to happen? The people in the lawsuit only got $500 which won't cover the cost. What did you other 2012-2014 owners do about this?
