About to graduate; might switch over to activism
Hi all! I’ve been in the subreddit for a minute to see what a potential career would be like regarding environmental careers. I originally was studying environmental science but switched to sustainability half way through college since I found it more government/policy oriented. I love the research side of things but found out I’m better suited explaining and problem solving than doing lab work! If anything, my time in school has taught me that we are so screwed as a society 😭
I’ve been wanting to go into policy making at the local or state level but have found positions disappearing or completely out of reach. Not sure if this has to do with our current president or my state ( did you know in FL it’s illegal to say “climate change”?)
On the side, I’ve been practicing art and journalism since I believe the root of most of our problems is corporate greed and lack of environmental education. I want to make statements, make a difference ( yes I know, it’s cheesy), open people’s eyes.
As I plan for what comes next, I’ll still apply to jobs but want to focus on the educational or even “activist” type route of all this. Are there any companies or groups that would be a good fit for this? Or should I try and solo it out? Anyone with experience in this?
Thanks!
