A question I was asked recently: How long were you playing before you started building "weird" decks?

Discussion

I have a couple of "normal" decks that come with me everywhere I play.

One is a [[Gargos]] "Big Green" hydra deck, another is a [[Gwendlyn di Corci]] grixis control list.

But I also always bring my [[Okaun]] & [[Zndrsplt]] coin-flip tribal deck and my all-silver-border [[Rarity]] deck, which are inevitably the ones people want to play against because they're not like anything anyone else plays.

Someone at a recent LGS game night who had only been playing for about a year asked me how long I had played before I started making "weird" decks - I didn't really have an answer.

My first deck was before Wizards was making official commander products, a [[Hannah, Ship's Navigator]] enchantress brew, and then I remember being very excited to pick up the 2011 [[Riku of Two Reflections]] pre-con. I think my first "weird" deck was a dumb [[Scrambleverse]] chaos deck after playing EDH for about 5 years.

How about you? Have you moved on from midrange value engines yet? If so, when?
