Roly Poly Bugs - NeW (old) House

🧽 Cleaning & Prevention

Hello. I am a bit concerned with a house I purchased (first time home buyer of a house built in the 70s). In the basement I have recently noticed mass extinction of the pill bugs / roly polys. Around the edges of the basement there were carcasses aplenty. I just recently pulled all the carpeting near the edges up (the guy used peel and stick carpeting for the entire basement…). I vacuumed up probably a million of these guys (mostly dead) but have since found a few living stragglers. I am not sure what to do next. Is there a way I can pinpoint where or what is causing this. I know they are attracted to moisture but since it’s winter I don’t feel it’s that wet in my basement. Do I have some wet rotting wood behind my walls? I’m afraid this could be a huge deal and kind of looking for advice on what to do moving forward whether it’s call someone or somehow do it myself. Any advice would be appreciated. The previous owner left a lot of work for me and first time houses are scary. Thanks in advance!
