First time non-random Soul Bind help

I think I finally convinced my buddy to do a Soul Bind with me on FRLG but we're just playing on vanilla Switch 2. Looking through the routes and encounters, it looks like (abiding by the no dupes between teams clause) there'll be a handful of routes where we won't have two unique Pokémon to encounter.

Is this just an intended feature and not a bug? Is working with a much smaller team than even normal nuzlockes part of the Soul Bind or is there rules you guys implement to help out with this?
