Not an EDM fan but want some opinions on Diplo!

I rarely listen to edm but I want to know edm fans opinion on Diplo.I once heard from someone that EDM industry kinda hates diplo that's why he's trying to sneak into different industries and genres? How much of this is true? As a non edm listener I always felt weird about diplo and don't get a good vibe from him. So what's your opinion on it I am genuinely curious?
