Relationships are hard

So my longest friend who has been pursuing me for along time but never paid attention finally gave him a chance and turned to be my boyfriend or ex now lol. Any ways things been good . Came to visit me , we took a trip to NYC for a weekend. He bought me a promise ring while in NYC. And he was talking about me moving close to his work place and move in together. Which I had also agreed on . And he’s been telling me how much he loved me blah blah. Any way , he went to rotation in any other country for his job. Communication was okay. The first few days while he’s out there. And then one day. I called him, he didn’t pick or return my call. I texted him telling him how much I missed him and how much i love him but still no reply. Called him again he didn’t pick or return the call. Then later that evening I saw him posting on Snapchat he was out with the co workers. So I let that pass. Called/texted him again the next day still the same. They I asked him why he acting like this and he then replied “ it’s not that I am just here sitting here and doing nothing all day” . This hurt so much and I replied to him saying “I am so sorry i didnt mean to bother you. And I won’t be bothering you on wards.” He didn’t reply. The next day he posted again on SC he was at work. So I thought through it and I unfriended him on SC, instagram and also blocked him on WhatsApp. I love him but I feel like it’s not fair for him to act like he doesn’t care. Did I over react ? Should I wait and hear what he has to say? Or I did the right thing? My heart is shuttered honestly. This is painful. Advice please.
