Thinking about ditching gas? My honest breakdown of the 2026 DeWalt 20V & 60V electric mowers.

Hey everyone,

Like a lot of you, I've had a garage full of yellow and black tools for years, but I was hesitant to make the jump from a gas mower to a battery-powered one. I finally got tired of the oil changes, the noise, and the exhaust smell.

I recently tested and reviewed the current 2026 lineup of DeWalt mowers to see if they actually hold up to thick grass.

A quick summary of what I found:

  • For pure power: The 60V MAX FLEXVOLT is an absolute beast. It legitimately rivals my old 160cc gas engine and the auto-sensing motor saves battery when the grass is thin.
  • Best all-around: The 20V MAX 21.5" Self-Propelled. It runs on two 20V batteries, and the rear-wheel drive makes it effortless for standard suburban yards.
  • Budget/Small yards: If you already have 20V batteries, grabbing the 2x20V bare tool push mower is a massive money saver.

Electric isn't for everyone (especially if you are mowing acres of land), but for standard yards, the convenience is unbeatable. No gas, no spark plugs, no pulling cords.

Curious to hear from those who already made the switch—do you miss your gas mower at all?
