Convince me to pull the $70 trigger (or not)

Discussion

I was honestly originally planning on skipping this game as none of the trailers had me feeling excited, but seeing all the reviews and having watched an hour or so worth of streams, I'm now on the fence about it and would love for some guidance one way or another. I think my biggest hurdle is the price tag.

For some context on my gaming history, I have 800+ hours in New Leaf, New Horizons, and Stardew Valley (each, not total) and have played a ton of Minecraft on and off over the years. I also used to be a huge Pokémon fan, though tbh I haven't really felt love towards the franchise in a long time at this point. Which isn't to say I dislike Pokémon, more just that I'm disappointed with how Nintendo has been treating the mainline games in recent years. (Plus, scalpers took the joy out of card collecting)

I feel like this game should be a hit for me, but nothing I've seen from it has been able to get me past the $70 price tag, despite loking what I saw enough to change my stance and consider the game. If the eshop had a refund policy like Steam's it'd be one thing, but since there's no way to get my money back if I'm not having a good time an hour into it, I'm feeling pretty anxious about getting it.

I've seen tons of great reviews and lots of people saying it's addictive, but the trailers and whatnot haven't quite given me that impression. Can anyone elaborate a little more on what makes the game so fun? How repetitive does it feel? How many hours do you see yourself getting out of it? And do you feel the price is justified? These are all questions I'd love some answers to!
