Ixalan Advice

So, a couple days ago I posted a question asking for advice on running an Egyptian Fantasy campaign, and holy hecc people helped a lot, I have a ton of sources to sift through and take notes about now, sincere thanks to this subreddit. But, while I work on developing that, my friends and I got the idea for a campaign set in Ixalan after watching Pirates of the Carribean. So now, I am wondering what advice people have to give about that.

To provide a sense of what I have to work with already, I have the Planeshift: Ixalan pdf and am currently reading through it, and I'm definitely sure I want to use Valda's and the High Seas nautical rules pdf from the same company. I also have Dr Drohlin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs.
