The reason there are more 'dead-beat' dads than 'dead-beat' moms

My sister and I had a conversation about this recently, because she discovered she is pregnant and doesn't know if she wants to keep the baby.

One of her concerns is she isn't even 100% certain who the father is at this point, and she is worried about having a baby with a 'dead-beat' father. I completely understand her concern and I support whatever decision she makes.

I started thinking about how there's way more 'dead-beat' dads out there and why that is. While discussing with my sister, I came across the thought that most of the would be 'dead-beat' moms just abort the baby or give it up for adoption.

Fathers simply don't have that option. If they get a woman pregnant and she wants to keep it, they don't get a say in whether or not the child is born. Rightfully so in my opinion.

However, I also think that makes it unfair to claim men are more likely to abandon their family because there's just some defect with men. The main reason behind this statistic, in my opinion, is men get forced into parenthood they A LOT more frequently than women.

Please note, I am not trying to make any blanket statements about all men or women in this post. Just talking about averages.
