Marie’s doll not appearing in item box on new run

I’m having a weird issue with Marie’s doll in re9 and I’m not sure if I messed something up or if the game just works like this.

So basically I finished a playthrough, then I started a second run. After that, I loaded an older save from my first playthrough to go back and unlock Marie’s doll. I picked it up, saved the game, went back to the main menu, and then started a brand new run, since I found out it wouldn’t work otherwise. But the doll still isn’t appearing in my storage box.

From what I understood, once you unlock bonus items they should show up in the item box when you start a new game after unlocking them. I already saved after picking it up and started a fresh run, but nothing shows up.

Did I miss a step or do I need to finish that playthrough where I picked up the doll for it to register?
