Reality Check about scanning versus copying

My wife is a psych nurse practitioner who runs her own practice. We have three employees: two therapists and an office manager. I do a lot behind the scenes stuff with the business, including buying whatever office equipment we need. One of our therapists recently asked me to upgrade our multi-function Brother laser printer/copier/scanner to one that is capable of two-sided (duplex) copying. This kind of mystified me since I had recently purchased a ScanSnap ix-2500 scanner, which scans double-sided and does it quickly and easily. It's not a copier, per se, but if you want to "copy" a two- or multi-page document, you only need to scan it with the ScanSnap and then print it out from your computer.

Am I out of touch here? I know most offices DO have copy machines. But it seems unnecessary for our small practice, especially when you can easily accomplish the same thing with our scanner.

I should mention that when this therapist wants copies of something, all she has to do is ask our office manager to do it.
