How can a harmonic analysis aid in memorization and understanding of a piece?

I don't do the analysis myself but if I can find one, it helps me:

1. find the dominant and tonic chords to shape the phrases

2. figure what key I am in and when the music modulates

3. map out the larger form of the piece

What else can I be using aharmonic analysis for? Practical examples?
