I started a free side project

Blog

I started Void Salvage as a free side project to get away from my current project Politiks which was not doing so well. I wanted to make a simple space incremental game with auto-battler.

I uploaded it on itch I think the end of December 2025, it was sitting dormant until around January 19, 2026, it got a massive traction. 12, 760 view 398 downloads, and 8,985 browser plays.

Then came a descent amount of followers, and gamers helped me expand the game from a simple incremental to now roguelite with features I kept on adding from people's suggestion.

It felt like I was doing something, like creating something with other gamers like myself. It's a nice feeling to get people to react weather I did something bad with the update or good.

February 2026, I finally decided to migrate to Steam and hoped that more people would get to play the game. I've also started promoting in socials to market the game (which is not fun). I decided to hire a PR to hopefully ligten the workload so I can focus on making the game.

March 6, 2026 IGN featured my game trailer, which is such a big deal for me. I've never had this kind of opportunity for my other games.

It has been a strange and exciting journey for a project that started as a simple experiment.

From a small itch release to now being featured on IGN, Void Salvage has grown far beyond what I originally imagined. Much of that growth came directly from player feedback and suggestions.

The game is still evolving, and I am looking forward to continuing development and seeing where this journey goes next.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far.
