Just had my MV repair by DaVinci surgical system. My experience (still recovering at hospital) took place march 5th.
31F and my repair took place at New York Presbyterian with Dr. Mick.
Day 1: Check in. Came to pre-surgical admission and was quickly checked in. Was put in a gown, met with team anaesthesia and nurses took down my information. Didn’t get to meet Dr. Mick as time was constrained. I was prepped with anaesthesia and sedative. So I didn’t remember going to the OR or surgery. They worked fast and were very professional. Ended up in ICU in pain from tubes attached to the right side of my chest, one bigger than the other and couldn’t breath or eat the whole day. Hardest part for sure. Towards the end of the day Dr mick met me.
Day 2: woke up still in the ICU. Two tubes in my chest. Hurt like hell. Couldn’t sleep from the pain or move. One tube was bigger than the other and it’s a drainage tube and other is for urine. Just had the drainage tube taken out and met with Dr Mick as well. Thorough repair as my valve was stretched out. Very grateful for her as my doctor. Had my first walk and one of the tubes taken out (drainage). It made made breathing difficult. Also had an X-ray before and after the tube was taken out with a digital novel x ray machine. Had dedicated nurses the whole time working around the clock. Very grateful for them. Had my first breakfast and lunch. Dr Mick made rounds with residents and met with time to check up on me.
Day 3: TBC.
