do gcse results matter considerably for Russel Group Unis?

title, at the moment im at a 887777766 n im worried that if most of those dont turn into 8s and 9s, especially my sciences and maths i wont get offered a place (i know those dont matter heavily compared to a-levels but still a big concern, i want the best chance possible..)
