Anyone find their executive function worse AFTER getting diagnosed?

General Question/Discussion

An interesting observation my parents had the other day is that I'm a lot worse at starting & finishing tasks than I used to be, almost as if my executive function got worse as soon as I became aware that I had ADHD.

I can definitely see it, and it also makes sense logically. I make more excuses for myself, am generally kinder to myself (as advised by my therapist who herself has ADHD), and have an actual understanding that it is harder for me to start tasks than the average person rather than blaming myself for being lazy & broken. I used to get motivated by guilt, which is still something that helps, but is nowhere near as strong as pre-diagnosis.

I'm much less productive than I was back then too. Not a huge difference, but it's definitely noticeable. For example I used to leave my admin & uni work until 2 days before the deadline, whereas now I'm much more comfortable leaving it until the hour before to submit, or even using up my extensions.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to compensate without medication? It's so tricky to get the balance right!!
