Mombasa is boring
I moved here from Nairobi 2 years ago, and it is the best decision that I have ever made. Mombasa is so beautiful and so peaceful. Life here is definitely lighter and slower than Nairobi, and for me that is amazing. Nairobi has a way of making someone stressed even if you really don’t have much stress. Everything moves faster and more aggressively, and everything is so darn expensive.
But one thing I really miss about Nairobi is the abundance of choice, especially in entertainment. You can get any cuisine you like in minutes in Nairobi, and there’s something for everyone when it comes to music. You can hit up a rhumba joint at 7pm, go to a reggae one, then go to a mixed-genre club later, then finish the night at an oontz joint all in one night. I really, really miss that.
The coastal region, especially Mombasa, is sooo boring. Like I just finished work, I just want to go dance to oontz for a few hours then come back home, but I literally have nowhere to go. Us EDM lovers residing in Mombasa are really suffering. 😪 Like the only entertainment options are either Al Capone or 1922. 😭 Let’s not even talk about Bamburi. I cannot go to these places anymore. If I hear Donjo Maber one more time, I am going to self-combust.
To be honest, Mombasa is actually slowly growing, and I’m really, really hoping that EDM spots start popping up here because I can’t keep travelling to Nairobi just to dance. Fellow EDM enthusiasts living in Mombasa, where do you guys go? Or should we start hosting house parties so that we can play what we want?
