Folks, what are your book club reading list recommendations?

Subreddit Meta

In the most recent Break Show VOD, a fan sent in the only copy of their self-published book (TheRest, I think?) and Geoff said offhandedly, "If we had a book club, that'd be the first book in it."

So, of course, now I wonder what the community thinks would be good additional books for a book club. But it would be too easy to organize an actual book club...

so instead, what if there was one canonical book club list, and once someone reads a book on the list, we write "read by <username>" and strike-through the book's title?

So only one person can read each book and get credit, which is kind of a fuckface for a social club, but also way easier than making dozens of people read the same book.

To get your name on the list and be the one person to have read the book, you have to review the book with a post. True, you could lie about finishing a book and make up a really convincing review, but 1) that's a lot of work when you could just read, and 2) you never know, someone might go to the list, see your username, think you're the authority on this book, and ask you questions.

An easy first suggestion would be any of John Darnielle's (of The Mountain Goats, mentioned in So, Alright and one of the song drafts) books, but I'd suggest Devil House. I'm struggling to think of other books though, what do y'all think of this idea?
