Unlocked every geo-locked feature in Egypt with one simple "ghost" eSIM (No Root)
I'm a tech geek and a Dentist. I’ve spent years chasing the "Pixel Experience." I used to maintain custom ROMs for the Samsung S-lineup just to strip away the bloat and get close to Stock Android. When the Pixel 8 Pro launched, I finally "touched grass" and bought it. The software is everything I wanted... except for the fact that I live in an unsupported region (Egypt). For months, I was hit with the reality of being a "second-class" Pixel owner. No VoLTE, no Wi-Fi Calling, no Call Screening, no VPN, and even the Thermometer was nerfed. I tinkered with Shizuku and Carrier Vanity, but Google eventually patched those workarounds. Then I tried a desperate experiment that changed everything. I installed a free trial USA eSIM. I didn't give it data access, and I didn't even use it for calls. Just the presence of that US-based IMSI/Country Code on my phone acting as a secondary SIM triggered every single server-side flag. The Result? every feature i was handcuffed from using is now working! From calling features like call screening and taking a message to the Gboard features like ocr in Gboard or proof read and the thermometer body temperature and even some stuff I'm discovering as I'm using the phone.
It is mind-blowing (and infuriating) that these features aren't restricted because of "local carrier infrastructure" or "regulatory hurdles." They are working on-device right now in Cairo, perfectly fine, just because the phone thinks there’s a US connection present. Google, if the features work flawlessly with a "ghost" eSIM in an unsupported country, why are you gatekeeping them? The hardware is capable, the software is ready, and the users are paying flagship prices. Stop locking the "Pixel" out of the Pixel.
For the tech geeks out there, this is what i think is the technical explanation: Google uses a Priority Ranking for feature flags. Usually, the phone checks: MCC/MNC (Mobile Country Code): From the active SIM. GPS Geofencing: Your physical coordinates. IP Address: Your network location. By adding the US eSIM, you essentially performed a "SIM Injection" bypass. Android's PixelConfig often defaults to the highest-priority "Home" region if multiple SIMs are present. Since the US eSIM has a 310 or 311 MCC, the Google Play Services "Phenotype" flags (which control these features) flip from false to true globally across the OS. Hopefully Google don't patch that plz 😂
