So my year old Trader Joe’s elephant ear has been giving me babies for the past six months (I don’t actually know what it’s called when the original plant starts spitting out new growth separate to original bulb but you can clearly see in pics).

Anyways, she had about six large leaves and drops one of her larger leaves when she’s getting ready to put out a new large leaf or wants to redirect her nutrients to the pups. So, for a couple months now she’s been down to three large leaves and LOTS of new growth pups. Then, she dropped one of her three larges, and it looked like a new large leaf was emerging (which I was STOKED about because I thought maybe those were going to completely die out so she can focus on the pups).

TURNS OUT, from what I can see and feel (!!!!) this new growth off the original main plant that I THOUGHT was a new leaf, doesn’t seem like it is ??? It’s like a big fat node. It’s thick and sturdy, no sign of leaf growth or any ridge. It’s just a solid green node (lacking a better word?) ?? In pics you can see the yellow remainder of the large that just dropped (I trim once I know it’s a goner) also yes she has some damage. Results of two high active dogs. Ellie (plant) rolls with it nicely.

Somebody who’s survived my excited rant, What in the HECK IS THIS!!! I’m excited either way!!!!

What the heck is this!!! I love it already!!
