do i give up on him

im in highschool and ive been talking to this boy since last year. we have been on and off since jan 25. he broke up with me in may 25, then we dated again dec 25, but lowkey always stayed in contact.

ive made a couple of mistakes, but i think their minor. i didn't plan hangouts well, i blocked him a couple of times, i talked to a couple of my ex's while still in contact with him, my friends had always make fun of him, i was too close w my guy friends in the beginning, etc. he liked me first and he had always showed interest and i felt his love. but the second time we dated it felt drastically different from the first.

it was like he wanted nothing to do with me. we broke up again and we are about to date again but he still shows no interest in me even though he says he loves me. he says he wants to make things work, but i tell him what he needs to fix and there's no improvement.

i think we are both mentally drained with each other, but don't want to loose each other at the same time. do i keep putting in effort hoping he will see how much i love him with no reciprocation from him? or do i tell him it's best to part ways for good or a bit longer
