Thinking about building an Airborne Plague: mullet setup question
I’m putting together an Airborne Plague frame and trying to decide how I want to set up the front end. The frame is designed around 27.5 wheels, and the stock build usually comes with a RockShox Lyrik with 170mm travel.
Instead of sticking with the standard setup, I’m considering running a mullet configuration — keeping the 27.5 in the rear but putting a 29” wheel up front. My thought was to use a RockShox Lyrik with 160mm travel to keep the front end from getting too tall.
My goals are mostly aggressive trail riding and occasional bike park days, and I like the idea of the rollover benefits from the 29” front wheel while keeping the playful rear end.
For people who’ve experimented with mullet setups or similar geometry changes:
• How much does dropping from 170mm to 160mm actually offset the larger front wheel in terms of geometry?
• Does this end up riding balanced, or does it noticeably mess with the bike’s intended feel?
• Are there any handling quirks or downsides you ran into doing something similar?
Curious to hear what people think before I start buying parts.
