Boyfriend M25 keeps looking though my phone F22, is this okay?
I (22F) recently found out my boyfriend (23M) went through my laptop without my permission and screen recorded several things, including videos and my Notes app. I only found out because he accidentally left QuickTime open and I saw the recent recordings. He had also opened a group chat with my friends that I hadn’t even been active in for months.
One of the videos he recorded was just my guy best friend carrying me when we were all at Universal with a group of friends. My boyfriend has always been really jealous about this friend. He’s honestly a very flamboyant guy and he was there for me every single day when I was hospitalized with my autoimmune disease, so he’s been an incredibly important support system in my life.
This isn’t the first boundary issue either. My boyfriend has gone through my phone multiple times before. We’ve had conversations about it and agreed that it crosses a boundary, but this is now the fourth time something like this has happened.
I told my best friend what happened and he said the situation made him feel unsafe and uncomfortable, so he decided he can’t continue the friendship. I understand why he feels that way, but it’s been really painful to lose someone who supported me so much.
To make things even more complicated, my boyfriend’s grandma just passed away and the funeral is tomorrow. Because of that, I feel really conflicted about bringing this up right now.
At the same time, I’m starting to realize that some of his behavior is pretty controlling and it’s making me feel trapped in the relationship. Part of me feels like I should leave, but another part of me feels incredibly guilty doing that when he’s going through such a difficult time.
I guess I’m just looking for outside perspective on whether I’m overreacting or how people would handle this situation.
Just wanted to add…we’ve been together for abt 7 months and the first incident was 2 months into our relationship
