Boot Care for C350 Distress Roughout

Hey there! I just had a quick question in regards to boot care. What is the best way to care for my C350 Chelsea boots in distress rough out? I was reading that the White's oil can be applied to the boot for waterproofing. I applied a small dab/amount to one of my boots just to see what the white's oil would do, and it darkened the leather. What is the best method that you guys have found to care for distress roughout?

What do you use to waterproof them?
