The NPC Who Refused To Die Saved The Guy She Was Meant To Hurt : Read Online
My roommate Scarlett Huntington, campus queen, trust fund princess, and all–around nightmare, had one favorite.
hobby: tormenting her boyfriend, Julian Blake.
On paper, he was just some poor guy with a bum leg she kept around for laughs. A prop. A punchline. That’s what
everyone thought, anyway.
This time, her instructions were simple. Tip his wheelchair. Send him into the frozen lake. Watch.
I was already moving toward him when the sky lit up.
Glowing text flooded my vision, scrolling past like comments on a screen.
[Ugh, obsessed with this setup, spoiled rich girl and the secretly–loaded heir who’s pretending to be poor.]
[Girl is gonna regret this so hard. The worse she treats him now, the harder she falls later. RIP to that hot NPC tho.
He’s gonna blame her for everything and she ends up deleted.]
[I mean, she took the money. Kinda had it coming.]
[This is it, the moment he almost drowns, finally drops the act, and goes full dark romance on her. FINALLY.]
I stopped mid–step. I turned around, jumped into the lake, and dragged him out.
Then I took him home to my shitty basement apartment.
I was done being an NPC.
If there was a main character in this story, it was gonna be me.

Julian was out for a long time. When he finally came to, I was boiling water in this beat–up pot I’d found on the
street, trying to get him to take fever meds.
A cockroach skittered right over his foot. His “paralyzed” leg twitched so hard it almost staged a full medical miracle
and launched him off the bed.
I pretended not to notice and held out the pill. “Hey, you’re burning up. You need to take this.”
His face was flushed, but that didn’t stop him from smacking the pill right out of my hand. He opened his mouth to say something, but I cut him off first.
“I’m sorry. My voice cracked Tor pushing you in.”
My eyes were red, and I gave him this shaky, apologetic smile. Look. I know ‘sorry‘ doesn’t undo what I did. But at least let me take care of you until you’re better Please. Let me try to make this right”
My hands were trembling so hard the water in the cup was sloshing. Julian’s gaze swept over the damp, dark basement, then landed on my face. My cheeks were flushed too.
Chapter 1
‘You’re sick too?”
I blinked, surprised he’d noticed, and shook my head. “We only had one pill left. You needed it.”
“Don’t,” he scoffed. “Every time you did Scarlett’s dirty work on me, she paid you. After all this time, that’s gotta be a
decent chunk of change. Don’t tell me you can’t afford a single pill.”
I went rigid.
Heir to Blake Industries, the top dog in the business world. Of course he knew I’d been taking Scarlett’s money to
mess with him. Easy intel.
I saw the sneer in his eyes, and the words from those floating comments flashed through my mind. After this, Julian
would become the untouchable prince. I’d never get close to him again.
This was my only shot.
I dropped my gaze, mumbling. The money… it’s for something more important.”
He rolled his eyes, annoyed, and started to get up. But then he slumped back down, half–conscious. His eyes were
open, but he couldn’t move. Couldn’t wake up.
cold.
I smiled to myself and snapped a syringe in half, tossing it out the basement window.
Scarlett’s money had gone to something important, all right. Like buying a little something to knock someone out
When the floating comments saw me struggling to haul Julian to the hospital, crying my eyes out but still whispering encouragement in his ear, they lost it.
[Wait, is this NPC actually insane?? She pushed him in, then pulled him out, and now his family totally missed their chance to come get him. Now he can’t reclaim his identity. How’s he supposed to go all dark romance on Scarlett??]
arm
[And she’s broke. What’s dragging him to the hospital even gonna do? She’s literally gonna kill him at this rate]
I didn’t have money.
But I had blood
I practically collapsed at the hospital entrance, begging the doctor to save him. I shoved my sleeve up, baring my
“I’m due to donate. Take mine Please, just save him. I can’t lose him. Not again.”
The doctor hesitated. “Miss Clark, you’re severely malnourished. You donate every month to cover your mother medical bills. This month, you finally met the goal, no more draws. And now you want to do this for a stranger
I owe him.” I whispered.
He sighed and finally agreed. As the blood drained out of me, leaving me dizzy, 1 cupped Julian’s face in my hands

You have to get better. Jullam
To give every drup I have if it meant you’d be okay”
I didn’t make t. The weakness bit
like a wave and I passed out stumped against his hospital bed
When I woke up it was dark outside. I opened my eyes slowly and realized there was a jacket draped over me Jalan
was sitting up in bed scrolling through his phone. His gaze was unreadable. Exved on me
Instinctively. I reached for his forehead Cool Normal I exhaled in relief.
“Are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat.”
I tried to stand but my vision swam and I stumbled. A strong hand caught my arm steading me. He didn’t let go.
You almost killed me. Then you nearly killed yourself saving me.” His voice dropped “What do you actually wenth
