Buyer's Remorse

Gear question

Long story short, I've been wanting to get a Nikon or Sony camera as basically when you look at all the third party lens options and support, E and Z mount are effectively a given, followed by maybe X and L in some cases.

So, after a lot of deliberation and research, I bought my Z5II a few months ago during the holidays and have loved learning it. I bought the Nikon 28mm SE lens for some vlog, talking head, and wide video shots and bought the Viltrox EVO 85mm shortly thereafter for a bit of reach for stills.

Maybe you can see where this is going already.

Fast forward to this month and Nikon is going after the likes of Viltrox, with all others pulling inventory out of fear they're next, so goodbye Sirui, Meike and more.

While features sold me on deciding between Nikon and Sony, the key point was the open, broad support of third party lenses that offered quality and quirk at a low price. I'm not a professional. I'm not writing off thousand dollar plus lenses as business expenses or pulling work that offsets it. I'm just a hobbyist looking to take nice pictures on a body that will last me years.

Unfortunately, Nikon has killed my biggest requirement and now I'm stuck. I can't return the gear so at best I sell it and at a loss, or succumb to paying whatever price Nikon sets for its lenses from this point forward. It's incredibly deflating and at this point, even though I couldn't afford a full frame Sony, I wish I had gone with one of their APS-C bodies.

Rant over. Maybe someone can offer some words of encouragement. Thanks.
