What are good headphones for Higher level competitive gaming?

Ive been looking for a new pair of headphones for a while, and after alot of research i ended up buying the beyerdynamic dt700 pro x's. Im having problems with pinpointing the direction and location of footsteps and im not sure if im doing something wrong or what? (Do i need something external like a mixer???)

I did look into open back headphones, but wasnt sure if they would be good for me, since i was afraid it would break my focus while gaming if i constantly heard my pc fans etc.

I have also looked into iems but all my life i have had issues with earbuds being uncomfortable for long periods of time.

I havent found anyone mentioning studio headphones for COMPETITIVE gaming, which is why im making this post.

Im tired of the bad quality of gaming headphones and i want to buy something that will last long and have really good sound. The dt700's have some of the best sound i have heard but not being able to pinpoint enemy locations is a huge deal breaker for me
