Speedy Gonzales

I'm going through the books for what must be the 7th or 8th time now and just caught a reference that I missed the first times through. When Samantha is rolling away from Carl and donut in Havana she says she came across a rat wearing a really big hat and that he ran away really fast. I'm thinking this must be speedy Gonzales right?
