I94 Invalid after traveling internationally?

I have an approved I797 that was approved on Nov 1 2025 and received an I94 number in it.

I had my previous visa expiring on January 29 2026 and I traveled to Mexico in Dec 2025 and came back without getting a visa stamped.

The immigration team of my company has reached out to me saying that as the most recently issued I94 expired in January 2026, I am now out of status.

Can someone please opine here.
