Need help designing a decentralized event-validation protocol where independent nodes submit and verify records before adding them to a shared ledger. Looking for existing patterns or papers.

As title suggests, looking for examples.of such systems to study before I get to work on a startup. If anyone is working on such a system or research I'd love to collaborate on an open source idea . But for now, I need study resources as I'm out of my depth here.
