How do you overcome the guilt?

SpoilerPet loss

My baby had a bilateral obstruction and sadly we had to make the difficult decision to let him go. How do you overcome the guilt of knowing that his last few days were filled with needles and vet visits which stress him out so much? I'm just thankful our vet let us bring him home at night and I know nothing could have stopped this from happening, but like the last thing I did with him was drive him an hour to a specialty vet. He hates car rides and used so much energy crying. His last hours were filled with pain and fear. I did get to say goodbye and I made sure to let him know he was so so so loved. But I wish his last hours had been full of snuggles and pets.
