Traveling on STEM OPT while H-1B is filed (before lottery results)?
I’m currently on STEM OPT that’s valid until August 2027, and my company is filing an H-1B for me in this year’s lottery.
I’m thinking about visiting my home country for a short trip soon and returning to the U.S. (last week of March) before the H-1B lottery results come out. I would still be entering on my
valid F-1 STEM OPT status.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is traveling during this period generally okay, or is it discouraged once the H-1B registration/petition has been filed?
For context, I would make sure I have all the usual travel documents for re-entry on STEM OPT (valid F-1 visa, EAD card, I-20 with travel signature, etc.).
TIA!
