23 with $10k spare — invest, super, or something else?
please delete if not allowed!!
hey everyone,
just looking for a bit of advice on what to do with some spare money.
i’m 23 and have about $10k that i’m not sure what to do with. at the moment i’ve also got:
- $10k in a macquarie savings account
- $20k in etfs
- about $7k in my everyday account but that’s already set aside for upcoming holidays and general expenses
- the 10k i want advice on is currently in a westpac saving account
i’ve recently graduated from nursing and i’ve already paid off my hecs so i don’t have any debts.
i’ve been thinking about a few options but i’m not sure what makes the most sense.
i was considering putting some into my super because i think the government matches up to $500 if you make a voluntary contribution? i need to look into it more though.
another option is just adding more to my etfs, but i’m not sure because i don’t know when i’ll want to buy a house. it’ll probably be a few years away but i don’t want to lock up too much if i end up needing it for a deposit.
i’d also be willing to risk a couple thousand on individual stocks just to learn, but i don’t know if the risk is really worth it.
i’ve even thought about starting some kind of side business, but i have no idea what i’d actually do.
just curious what others would do in this situation, especially if you were in your early 20s and still figuring out investing.
any ideas would be appreciated.
