Survivor Bias

Rant

So YouTube has been pounding me with this WWII survivor bias video and I saw yet another "why are most men looking for hookups?" post today. And I don't want to fall into this "not all men" argument but as I myself and the men I know using dating apps are all looking to find a partner and get off the apps, is this survivor bias where survival is your own swiping?

And I'm first to admit, I swipe on maybe 25%, but I don't make many or all women statements. I will say something like "most of the women I connect with" or something like that. But I have recognized patterns that lead to failure and altered my swiping habits.

In my quasi scientific mind, I'm wondering if this talk is all about a population of men that most women swipe on. And if they were looking for a partner they will be off the app quickly so then the remaining population isn't looking for a long term thing but have long term residency on the dating apps.

But on the flip side, maybe all the women I swipe on are camping out until they find that unicorn among the wolves, so to speak? (For some reason I feel the women are more genuine about wanting LTR or a casual thing, so this reason makes sense to me)

I would very much love to see the data. Does understanding the environment make a difference on how we engage it?
