Career path switch/ law school
I recently graduated from a T50 school with a finance degree. I’m a part of a graduate program at a large energy company. First year out and I’m making $100k+. After the program is finished I’ll have an extensive technical background in energy and markets.
The issue is the “current” work is not fulfilling, I work with external counsel and in-house and their jobs seem 10x more interesting than what I’m currently doing. I’ve had law school in the back of my mind for years, and I want to obtain a higher degree at some point.
Also income, I feel like what I’m doing now I’ll probably cap out at 200k + hard to move through seniority at my company.
Overall I’m interested in in-house at a similar company I’m at now/ big law with external council.
Has anyone made the pivot to law but stayed in their original industry? I’m interested in project finance and energy infrastructure. The thing holding me back is the cost of law school, having zero income + school costs for 3 yrs is daunting.
