Marriage as an Inquirer

NSFWSexuality

Blessings everyone,

My fiancé & I are inquirers of the Orthodox Church. We are set to have our courthouse wedding next week. Today he began to question whether it is right for us to get married in a worldly institution rather than wait until we are both members of the church and can be married by a priest/take all the appropriate steps as the church outlines.

My understanding is because we are not members, it would be OK for us to go forward with the courthouse wedding and then have our marriage blessed by a priest in the future.

For added context, we are in a long distance relationship, so we would be in two different churches under two different priests as we become catechumen then members which for me is not ideal. I would like for us to get married, be living together and growing in the church together under the leadership of our shared priest.

For transparency, because this is the love of my life - I am extremely excited about getting married to him and joining our families together. I am truly desiring for this to happen in a way that brings us closer to one another and closer to God. He is worried that marrying would be an affront to the process set out by the church. I believe that us getting married then living together would allow for us to actually come into marriage even stronger and under guidance from one priest & sharing in fellowship with the same community, etc..

Since we are both new, I wondered if anyone could chime in here with insights.

TL;DR Fiancé is worried about getting married at a courthouse since we are inquirers who plan to become catechumen then members in the future. We are long distance, at present. Would this be wrong and selfish of us to not wait? * He will talk to the priest on Sun but I wanted some input. Thanks.
