Is it normal to get grilled during a presentation for a scientist role in startup?
I recently did a presentation for a role at a startup company. They asked me to do a virtual presentation for 45 mins with the COO, directors, and basically every major person in the company. The presentation went for 2hrs and they asked upwards of 70 questions.. Felt like a thesis defense, and I came out of the meeting feeling terrible. They asked questions beyond the scope of the presentation/job description (but something the company does in general). I was able to hold my own on the questions based on my experiences/research. out of my core competencies, not so much. Just curious whether this is normal in startups? I previously worked in a mid-sized company where candidates gave presentations all the time.. but it was not that intense (although that was 2022, when the market was very hot)
