Switched to local account login and now I am locked out of Windows 11
Had Windows 11 installed and running for months. Using a PIN. I started to not like that way of logging in so I went to settings and clicked the "Login with local account" option. Set a password and the system logged me out.
When I tried to login in again, it was still asking for the PIN. I entered my PIN and I get an error saying "your credentials could not be verified"
So I clicked the "use password" link, entered my new password, and I get an error saying "account is locked"
After resetting my Microsoft Online password using another computer, I was able to login in again using my pin. So, as a test, I signed out - tried to sign in again using password - still got the "you account is locked" error. So I backed up and switched back to using a PIN and now it's giving me the "credentials could not be verified" error again.
I would just keep messing with it but every time I have to reset my Windows Online, I have to pick a new password and can't use old passwords. I am fast running out of passwords I can remember.
What is the trick to actually logging in to Windows 11 with a password instead of a PIN?
