Update: Tara says donated meat is now being given to a church after questions about where donations were going
There’s been a new update in the situation involving the porch pantry and the donations that were being collected.
Tara just posted on the Outlaw Barber Shop page saying that after the recent attention and donations, she contacted a local church that has a licensed kitchen and freezer space and plans to donate all the meat to them so it can be cooked and distributed under health department guidelines.
She also stated in the post that she is not a registered nonprofit and described herself as “just a gal trying to get into heaven.”
This comes after a lot of questions were raised about food and donations that were previously being collected while people believed they were connected to Out of the Way Community Corp (Erica’s 501(c)(3)).
According to Tara’s post:
• The meat will be given to a local church with a licensed kitchen
• The church will cook and distribute the food to the community
• The porch pantry will remain open for public donations
• She clarified that her effort is not a nonprofit
One thing people should now be asking is which church received the donation, mainly so donors know where the food ultimately ended up.
Curious what people think, is this a good resolution or does it raise more questions about how the donations were originally being handled?
