Should we amend our NY state return?
We filed our federal and state taxes jointly. When we got to the state return, we had to file IT-203 (nonresident and part-year resident). We got to the section about NY source income, spouse had W2 wages plus interest/dividend income and I just had interest/dividend income.
We got confused and just said spouse had NY source income and combined my interest/dividend income with theirs. We included all necessary income from NY source and paid all taxes due. The biggest mistake was just not saying both had NY source income.
At the end of our return, it says we signed IT-203-C saying only one spouse had NY source income.
Am I overreacting or should we amend our state return? We paid necessary taxes just didn't know if it would cause issues down the road.
Our federal return should be all set because we distinguished interest/dividends between my spouse and I in the tax software.
Any advice would be appreciated!
