Quit my job due to not receiving the promotion offered, only to find out coworkers were being promoted around me.

Top performer in my department, was initially offered a promotion after 6 months. It was delayed initially as the managers wanted to soften the blow to members of the department who had been there longer than me. Management changed, twice. Fast forward 2 years, I had still been asking about the promotion offered and expected to move up within the company. Was told to wait until January this year, again to soften the blow to those who had been with the company longer than me.

I was called into a meeting early February to inform me that I was no longer being promoted but two colleagues around me were. In this same meeting I was told I would be promoted to head of the department, but we would need to wait 3-4 months, in order to “not rock the boat”. My initial reaction was, “so can I not develop my career while team members who have been with the company longer than me are still there?”. “No, it’s just not the right time”.

So, after a couple of weeks I spoke to the CEO, told them what had happened, what I was expecting, asked if there was another opportunity for me. Essentially to be told, at the moment no, but we want to promote you in the future.

By this stage, I felt they were stringing me along, so I resigned with no back up. Initially regretted it, thought I had fucked myself over.

Fast forward, I tell my colleagues I resigned. Was pretty open with why I made the decision (same reason I gave the manager). Then, I spoke with a colleague from a different department who then told me they had also resigned due to office politics. However, MY BOSS (who is not his boss) AND THE CEO, offered him a promotion ON THE SPOT TO MAKE SURE HE DID NOT RESIGN.

Ok, so now knowing this. They were determined not to promote me in any shape or form.

Feel like shit, hate corporate jobs.
