How difficult is it to switch fields of law?

Career & Professional Development :Jerb:

Hey y'all,

I joined the legal profession to work in something creative. Think trademarks, copyrights, and entertainment law; I even have a concentration in IP Law. I'm in a major city, Chicago, so there's a decent amount of opportunities.

I started working as a personal injury attorney because I desperately needed a job. Shortly thereafter, I got a better job with higher pay in union law. It's been about 1 year for me in the profession. In one year I've won arbitrations, succeeded in court hearings, and have honed my writing and research skills. I have a TON to learn still but I'm definitely not a newbie like I was a year ago.

I want to switch to something that actually gives me meaning and that's helping others with creative projects. For example, I love working with trademarks, copyrights, and anything entertainment related.

How tricky is it to switch to completely separate fields of law? Does anyone here have any personal experience in doing so? Any advice would be great, thanks!
