How to smoke papers without canoe/trailing

Anytime I’ve ever smoked anything made of hemp/reg paper it trails. Anytime I go to the dispensary and get pre-rolls, I immediately break them up and smoke the pot out of a bong or vape because they trail. Anytime I roll my own joint, it trails.

However, anytime I roll a blunt, even if it’s not a perfect pearl, it doesn’t trail or I can at least fix it. Papers just make me upset because I have some sort of skill issue. Am I lighting them wrong? I twirl the joint in front of the flame. I’ve tried the trick to hold the joint upside down while it’s burning because heat rises and try to get it to burn evenly but it still does the canoe thing.
