Is medical coding still a viable career with AI getting better?

I’m considering moving into medical coding, but I keep going back and forth because of everything I’m hearing about AI. On one hand it seems like a stable healthcare career that doesn’t require years of school, which is really appealing to me. But then I read more about automation and AI tools being used in healthcare documentation and coding, and it makes me wonder if I’d be investing time and money into something that might shrink in a few years.

I’m in my early 30s so this would be a pretty big career shift. For anyone currently working in medical coding, how worried are you about AI changing the field? If you were starting today, would you still go into it? I’d really appreciate hearing some honest perspectives from people doing the job.
