I (24M) just lost my father to a heart attack.

For context me and my dad were not close at all. He and my mom had a terrible relationship. Let’s just say any horrible thing that could happen to my mother happened to her in that relationship. They divorced when I was young. He stuck around for a couple years and then he just stopped showing up. Despite all of the drama, he still is my dad.

Because of his personality, many of our family members had issues with my dad. One of my cousins, Ozzie (22M), got screwed over by him pretty bad. So much so that the situation caused Ozzie to lose money. He did not fuck with my dad at all and neither did his mother.

My extended family was over at my mom’s house just spending time together. Ozzie kept making snaggy remarks about my dad. Me and my siblings were brushing past the comments, but it was completely inappropriate. My sister then said something nice about my dad and Ozzie jumped in and said “You guys don’t have to act like he was a saint”. I asked Ozzie what his problem was. Ozzie said he had no problem whatsoever.

Later, Ozzie was on the phone with his mom and they were talking shit about my dad in the guest room where he thought nobody could hear him. Everyone heard him. As soon as Ozzie came out. I told him if he’s going to act like this he can just go. He looked shocked. He said he didn’t do nothing wrong. I told him he’s been talking shit this whole time so he can talk shit elsewhere. He asked me why would I kick my own cousin out of my house. I told him everyone is grieving and if he’s going to be a AH he can just go. Ozzie tried to go back and forth with me, but I told him he can just go. Ozzie then got mad and said he’s going to leave if he’s not wanted. He left and slammed the door in my face

My mom told me I was an AH for kicking him out.
