I have been able to completely abort attacks through meditation.

I have never been someone who goes for holistic approaches necessarily, but the relief I feel now is so immense that I just wanted to share.

I started getting cluster headaches 10 years ago. They stopped for around 6 years, didn't get a single one, but then started back up last month out of nowhere. I went about 3 weeks getting headaches every day, 3-6 attacks each day. Excedrin helps a little, but doesn't make them go away completely.

A few nights ago, I was on the verge of a nervous break due to lack of sleep and the pain in general. I decided to do a meditation exercise I learned in therapy for panic attacks, and I was really surprised when it made my headache vanish entirely. I have done it every night since, and it makes the headache disappear every time.

All I do is breathe in 10, out 10 for a few minutes until that starts to feel natural. Then, I focus on each part of my body starting with the top of my head and moving down. I spend a lot of time making sure my jaw, neck, forehead, and shoulders are very relaxed.

Usually the headache is gone after about 10 minutes of this. Sometimes I'll still get a random spike or two afterwards, but as long as I keep my breathing steady and don't freak out, it doesn't come back. Unfortunately it doesn't really work if I try to do it during the day when I'm out or at work, but even just the relief at night is substantial.
