“Teleton P100 + Teleton A300 setup very quiet – looking for troubleshooting advice”
Hi everyone,
I recently got into vinyl and bought a small vintage setup, but I'm having some issues and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help.
My setup is:
- Teleton P100 turntable
- Teleton A300 amplifier
- Bang & Olufsen Beovox X25 speakers
The speakers and amplifier seem to work fine because when I use the tuner/radio input the system gets quite loud and sounds good.
However, when I play records with the turntable the sound is much quieter than expected. I have to turn the volume almost all the way up to get a reasonable listening level, and even then the sound doesn’t feel very clean or powerful.
The turntable is connected to the MAG input on the amplifier (magnetic cartridge input). The record plays normally and the speed seems correct, but the signal just feels weak.
A few things I noticed:
- When I turn the volume knob on the amplifier I sometimes hear crackling or scratching noises until it “finds” the correct contact.
- The system gets much louder when using the tuner compared to the turntable.
- The turntable seems mechanically fine (platter spins normally).
Could this be caused by:
- a worn or faulty cartridge or stylus?
- an issue with the phono stage in the amplifier?
- or something else in the signal path?
Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be really appreciated. I'm still pretty new to vintage hi-fi and vinyl setups.
Thanks!
