Any feedback or ideas on this Traitors party plan?
I always throw pretty great parties, if I do say so myself, and they often have a strong theme or big activity. I’m looking for ways to keep up the momentum and give my friends a good time, but put less work and stress on myself. With that in mind, I’ve decided to have a Traitors party based on the game (I’ve recently been sucked into the whirlpool of watching all seasons and series). There wouldn’t be a ton of prep and it won’t be difficult for my friends to grasp and they don’t need to prepare in any way.
If you are familiar with the game, can you look through my plan and let me know if you have any feedback?
Thank you!
GAME
TRAITOR SELECTION
Everyone provides their phone number to the host when they arrive (or in advance if possible) and everyone is asked to put their phones and watches on silent (WhatsApp will be used to communicate, so everyone should have it)
While everyone is mingling, the host will text their 3 selected traitors separately to provide the oath and have the traitors swear to it
Once the traitors have sworn the oath, the host will create a group chat with all the traitors making sure to name them (in case the traitors don’t already have each other’s phone numbers)
To avoid suspicion, the birthday woman will simultaneously text the entire party the game rules
The host will not participate in any traitor conversations and may only communicate to provide instructions, for example to recruit a new traitor
TRAITOR OATH
Do you commit to lie and deceive throughout the game? Are you willing to murder faithfuls throughout the night?
And, do you vow to keep your identity and the identity of your fellow traitors a secret?
TRAITORS
Traitors will communicate only when the host announces that a murder is about to take place, or when the host texts the traitors to instruct them to choose a recruit
To avoid suspicion, the entire party will be instructed to quietly answer a trivia question in the party chat (funny questions about the birthday girl like vocal range, siblings, etc.)
Recruits will be texted separately by the host who will offer them to become a traitor or die
The host will remove banished traitors from the chat and add recruits as needed
MURDER
After every 15-20 minutes of mingling, the host will announce that it’s time for a murder to take place
The traitors will have 2 minutes to come to a consensus
The host will announce to the party who has been murdered
Murdered guests can continue to hang out, but may not divulge who the traitors are or otherwise try to influence the game
BANISHMENT
After every murder, the party will have a 5-10 minute Roundtable discussion to determine who they want to banish, and votes will be given verbally and tallied by the host
Once votes are accounted for by the host, the banished player will reveal if they were a faithful or a traitor
Banished guests can continue to mingle and enjoy the party but may not divulge who the traitors are or otherwise try to influence the outcome of the game
MINGLING
After murders and banishments, the party will mingle and theorize and strategize with each other using all the spaces on the manor property until they are called back by the host via the group chat
GENERAL RULES
We want to maintain a 20-30% traitor balance, so if traitors dwindle early, the host will instruct them to recruit
Once the game begins and traitors are selected, the host will text the chat to inform them that shields and daggers are hidden around the manor, and what the rules for each are
Once there are only five players left, banished players will not reveal their identities, and voting will continue until all remaining players decide that there are no traitors among them, or until there are two players left
If only faithfuls remain at the end, they split the prize, but if there are any traitors left, they take it all for themselves
SHIELDS x4
Each can only be used once
They automatically protect a faithful from being murdered by a traitor (but can be held by faithfuls or traitors)
Hidden in envelopes by the host
DAGGERS x2
Each can only be used once and can only be used until there are five players left
Allow the holder (a faithful or a traitor) to cast an additional vote at the Roundtable
Hidden in envelopes by the host
THE PRIZE
TBD
INVITE/PRE PARTY INFO
WhatsApp with your real name
The general game details
No kids for this one
RULES FOR SHARING
An undisclosed number of people have been selected to be Traitors; the rest of us are Faithful
Traitors will secretly plot together to murder Faithfuls one by one
Faithfuls will have the opportunity to vote together to banish who we think are Traitors
Banished players will reveal to the group whether they were a Traitor or a Faithful
The goal of the game is to be the last one or two players standing
Once there are only five players left, banished players will no longer reveal their identities, and voting to banish will continue until all remaining players decide that there are no traitors among them, or until there are two players left
If only faithfuls remain at the end, they split the prize, but if there are any traitors left, they take it all for themselves
Traitors may not under any circumstances reveal their identity until asked to do so by the host if and when they are banished
Traitors may not under any circumstances reveal the identities of other traitors at any point in the game including after they have been banished themselves
There are a few items hidden around the manor that may help you when you need it most. If you find one, you may choose to keep it secret or you may choose to confide in players you trust that you have found an item.
4 shields are hidden in envelopes on the manor property. If you hold a shield, it will automatically protect you from being murdered. A shield may only be used once.
There are also 2 daggers hidden in envelopes around the manor property. A dagger can be used to cast an extra vote at banishment. A dagger can only be used once, and can only be used until five players remain in the game.
This is a game of dishonesty and mistrust. Enjoy.
